Playability · Feature 05

When Mahjong Design Becomes Difficult to Play

Recognize glare, low contrast, ambiguous artwork, unstable accessories, sound fatigue, and inaccessible styling.

Working outcomeA four-seat playability audit and an edit list.

Readability is multi-directional

Every player sees tiles from a different angle. Small numbers, stylized suits, low contrast, and reflective surfaces may fail unevenly.

Audit the whole sensory field

Look beyond color to glare, sound, weight, reach, clutter, edge catching, and visual fatigue.

  • Sit in every chair.
  • Test representative tiles quickly.
  • Lower music and moving light.

Edit without defending the concept

Remove the object causing friction, add neutral light, simplify the mat, or change the set. A design is not successful merely because it photographed well.

Keep the boundary visible

Vintage identification belongs to MahjongCharm; furniture engineering belongs to MahjongFurniture; general product comparisons belong elsewhere.
